Monte Carlo:Frenchman Sebastien Loeb maintained his lead over Citroen team-mate Dani Sordo of Spain in the Monte Carlo Rally on Friday. Loeb and Sordo won three stages each in the principality. However, the Frenchman, who is chasing his fourth consecutive world title, ended the day with a lead of 25 seconds over Sordo. Finland's Marcus Gronholm finished third, a further 50 seconds behind. Loeb had signalled his intentions for 2007 with a dominant performance in Thursday's first two special stages. On Friday the Frenchman maintained his advantage, although he didn't have it all his way Sordo won the opening stage of the day, the third of the rally. But Loeb then won the next. The pair then took alternate stages from five through to eight, the last of the day. Loeb had been expected to struggle at the start of the new season, having not yet fully recovered from a broken arm suffered in a mountain bike accident at the end of last year.
