Bangalore:
The country's first motocross academy is all set to kick off here next week, and driving the venture is none other than five-time national champion Shyam Kothari. Mainly targetting the 7-24 age group, it is aimed to be a breeding ground for nurturing talent, catering to both the enthusiasts as well as serious contenders, Kothari said today. "The objective is to attract more people into the sport, create awareness on motocross and increase the standard and level of the game," Kothari said. "We want to produce riders who will represent India in the Asian and World Championship in the next two-three years." Promoted and sponsored by city-based Jatti Sports, "Shyam Kothari National Motocross Academy" would be opened on May 24 with a formal launch slated for May 29. Kothari said six foreign motocross bikes and five specially designed Indian kids bikes, along with international standard riding gears, have already been procured for the training centre located on the Old Madras road. The academy would offer courses on motocross for the enrollers as well for those who are keen to pursue a career as race officials, he added. According to Channu Jatti of Jatti Sports, one of the highlights of the academy is "Moto X", a racing and entertainment centre. Both Kothari and Jatti expect good response to the venture. Plans are also on to have a floodlit motocross training track. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
