German Grand Prix: Sebastian Vettel not fussed by home failings

The 26-year-old German, who has led Red Bull to glory for the last three years in succession, said he was not allowing his curious lack of luck in his home event to worry him - just as he said he was also not upset at failing to win a race in the month of July.

Nurburgring: Championship leader Sebastian Vettel, the youngest triple champion in Formula One history, insisted on Thursday that he is not at all bothered by his continuing failure to claim a victory on his home soil.

The 26-year-old German, who has led Red Bull to glory for the last three years in succession, said he was not allowing his curious lack of luck in his home event to worry him - just as he said he was also not upset at failing to win a race in the month of July.

"I think what is much more important is what we have achieved in the last three years," said Vettel. "We had good races (at the Nurburgring) in the past and also in Hockenheim. It was always close but not good enough to win yet. We have a little bit of time left to try again and we're trying again."

Vettel has a career total of 29 victories to his name so far and was aware of his German slip-ups, but insisted that did not detract from the special thrill he felt when he raced in front of his home fans.

"Surely, it is special," he said. "In terms of championship points, it is the same as every other place, but it is something special to race in front of your home crowd.

"I feel happy to have that possibility. There are other nationalities that don't have a chance to race in front of home crowds. I think it is a privilege rather than extra pressure.

"It is nice to see the support we get and the fascination we have for F1. Motorsport has a big standing in Germany."

Vettel will be bidding to put his title bid back on track this weekend after failing to finish last week's British Grand Prix due to a gearbox failure.
