Magny Cours:

Formula One championship leader Fernando Alonso has won the French Grand Prix, with Kimi Raikkonen and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher finishing second and third. It was the sixth career win for Renault's Alonso and his fifth this season. All the teams were back on the track Sunday, two weeks after 14 cars boycotted the US Grand Prix over concerns about tire safety. Raikkonen penalised Raikkonen, who started 13th, was second 11.8 seconds behind in his McLaren-Mercedes. Although he had the third fastest qualifying time, he was penalized 10 spots on his qualifying position, having changed his engine following its failure during Friday's practice. Alonso was never challenged, leading from the start. He took an early lead and built on it throughout. Alonso now has 69 points in the overall standings, followed by Raikkonen on 45 and Schumacher on 40. Narain finishes 15th Meanwhile, India's Narain Karthikeyan brought up the rear as he finished 15th in the French Grand Prix. The Indian rookie driver racing for Jordan Grand Prix, who went into the race trying to make use of his track familiarity, finished last four laps behind winner Alonso. Karthikeyan, who qualified as the best among the four rookie drivers on Saturday, ended two places behind his teammate Tiago Monteiro of Portugal. (PTI)
