Beijing:A1 Grand Prix has launched A1 Team China, one year on from its launch and with less than six months to go until the first race at Brands Hatch on 25 September. The launch has instantly increasing the new world championship's potential fan base by 1.3 billion. At the event it was also announced that China will host the final round of the first A1 Grand Prix season, the race where the first A1 Grand Prix champion will be decided. At the spectacular launch ceremony for A1 Team China, held at the historic Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, the bright red A1 Team China car decorated with a golden dragon emerged from a giant Chinese lantern, surrounded by dancers in traditional costumes. Liu Yu, international businessman and President of A1 Team China, welcomed the new sport to a country where, following the arrival of F1 in Shanghai in 2004, motor racing is fast becoming a national passion. At the heart of A1 Grand Prix is national pride. As 'the World Cup of Motorsport', the new competition will pit country against country on a level playing field. Increase in representation Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, A1 Grand Prix's Founder, President and Chairman, welcomed China to the championship. He revealed that the addition of the most populous country in the world, takes the total number of people whose national team will be represented in A1 Grand Prix to 3.24 billion, already more than half the population of the planet. As the originator of the idea for A1 Grand Prix and the driving force behind it, Sheikh Maktoum set out to create a major global motor racing series from scratch. In Beijing, just one year on from the launch of the new championship in Dubai, he announced that with sixteen teams already confirmed and seven more in advanced stages of negotiation, ten potential buyers are in contention for the last two seats that remain to be allocated.
