New Delhi: The lone Indian driver at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, Narain Karthikeyan, finished 17th in his home race on Sunday.
It was a jump of seven places for the Hispania Racing Team (HRT) driver after having started the race from the last spot (24th).
Karthikeyan finished ahead of HRT team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, who came in 18th.
Of the 24 drivers participating in the Grand Prix, only 19 finished the race as five were forced to retire.
Karthikeyan had qualified in the 21st spot on Saturday but had to drop down the order after getting a 5-place grid penalty for impeding Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher in Q1.
For Force India, Adrian Sutil won two points after finishing ninth while Paul di Resta was 13th.
World champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull won the race at the Buddh International Circuit.
