Spielberg:Rubens Barrichello of Ferrari upstaged Michael Schumacher by coming in fastest in the first practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix. Schumacher has won four of the five races this season, but has never won in Austria. Barrichello's great practice session was probably a result of the confident mood he was in after signing a deal to stay on with Ferrari till 2004. Schumacher on the other hand had to settle for second place at the A-1 circuit. But the German will be confident after having won four races this season. BMW Williams are coming in behind the Ferraris once again. Juan Pablo Montoya in third place is still looking to win his first Grand Prix of the season. McLaren, who have had a bad start compared to their own standards this season, would have been happy to see Kimi Raikkonen finish fourth fastest. But David Coulthard, who is the defending champion here, could only finish ninth. Ralf Schumacher, the only driver to have won a race this season other than brother Michael had a poor day at the circuit, finishing more than a second behind Barichello. But everyone's eyes will be on Michael, who will be trying to extend his career Grand Prix wins to 58.
