Real Madrid F.C. lost 2-1 at Sevilla in the aftermath of its stinging "clasico" defeat as it slipped behind in the Spanish title race.
Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid in charge with his league-leading 27th goal of the season.
Sevilla hit back hard though with two goals that proved to be too much to handle for Real.
The disappointment was evident on the faces of Real Madrid players. Here is Gareth Bale making his way back after the match.
The problem for Real was compounded with wins by Atletico and Barcelona. Atletico players are seen celebrating their 1-0 win over Granada. The team moved three points clear of Madrid with eight rounds remaining.
Lionel Messi (in pic) and Neymar helped Barcelona stay one point behind Atletico as it rose into second place.
"I am happy for the goals and for having won the other day at the Santiago Bernabeu," said Neymar after the match. "(But) the victory is sad because of Valdes' injury."
Goalkeeper Victor Valdes tore a right knee ligament in the match.
