New Delhi:

Russia beat Netherlands 3-1 with two goals in extra time to enter the semifinals of the European Championship, here at Basel.

The teams were tied 1-1 after Ruud van Nistelrooy's strike in the 86th minute took the game into extra time.

Roman Pavlyuchenko had taken Russia ahead with his strike in the 56th minute.

In extra time, two quick strikes from Dmitri Torbinski (22') and Andrei Arshavin (26') put the game past the Dutch.

Edwin van der Sar, the Dutch captain and their much-decorated goalkeeper, is expected to retire from international football after this match.
