Madrid/Los Angeles:

Football fans are still trying to figure out why David Beckham is moving to USA but here's the answer from the man himself. David Bekcham says he's not moving from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy for the proverbial pot of gold though his five-year contract is worth over $250 million. He says he wants to make a difference and that could be quite a challenge given the low-key status for football in the land of baseball. "I think it's been a huge decision of mine and my family now because we've been living in Spain for four years now. I've now played for two of the biggest clubs in the world. I've played at the highest level for 15 years and now I think I need another challenge," said Beckham. Mixed reactions There have been mixed reactions to the former English soccer team's captain. His fans and soccer lovers wonder what prompted this move from a man who's played for two of the biggest and most glamorous clubs in the world, Manchester United and Real Madrid. "I think its his big bang, because he's getting, he's not as good any more, so he's coming here," said a local. "He's a superstar. He's more of a superstar than a soccer player," said another local. "I don't want to go out to America. At 34 years people turning around and saying 'well, he's only going there to get the money. It's not what I'm going out there to do. I'm going out there to hopefully build a club and a team that has got a lot of potential. I think that's what excites me," said Beckham. "He has the opportunity to change the sport for generations. He could be our Michael Jordan. He certainly will be for us what Pele was for the NASL (North American Soccer League)," said Don Garber, Major League Soccer Commissioner. "He's embracing this opportunity, it's not just about playing for the Galaxy, though that's a huge part of it, it's taking this sport on his shoulders and taking it to new heights," he added. "I think it is great. Why not? I am a soccer fan," said Madonna, singer and actress. The former England captain is the biggest name to sign up for Major League Soccer and will play with one of the US team's biggest stars Landon Donovan.
