New Delhi:
A former footballer herself, Sarkar has made a space for herself in a male dominated territory. Sarkar's ultimate dream is to coach the women's national football team to glory.
It is an unusual sight to see a woman coaching a men's football team, and Anita Sarkar is the only woman in India officially qualified to do so.
She is registered with the Indian Football Association and she coaches the Mirzapur Union Club.
Anita has also set up a football camp in Kolkata to train up to 50 boys drawn from the various districts of West Bengal
"My motive is to cultivate the best of the playing skills in these boys. I ensure that my boys should know all the techniques so that they become successful players. My aim is to produce excellent players for the country," said Anita.
Sarkar played for India for nearly two decades. She began her second chapter in Indian football with a coaching degree from the English Football Association in 1996 and from UEFA in 1998.
It is not Anita's impressive resume, but her hands on approach that has made her a popular coach.
"She knows all the technicalities of the game. There's nothing that she is unaware of. The training that she imparts is better than training being given at any big club. She tells us our mistakes. Even if we ask her 10 times, she answers all our queries," said Tanveer Hassan Khan, a football player.
The Ultimate dream though for this gutsy lady is to return to women's football, and be the national women's coach of India someday.
The trainees appreciate her practical approach and say that instead of
giving gospels and verbal instructions, Anita equips them with tricks of the
game.
Anita believes that power and fitness have now become the features of the modern football and so she herself practices with her students.
Anita Sarkar is the unfeigned example of a contrary reel life hero in super hit Bollywood flick Chak De India.
The movie shows Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan as the coach of women's hockey team. And Anita Sarkar is the real life paradigm for taking the path that is supposedly known as men's citadel.
