Bottom club Caen hosted Toulouse at the Stade Michel d'Ornano on Sunday. Toulouse came into the game unbeaten in four games and would have moved up into seventh place with a victory.

Caen, meanwhile, were hoping for their first win since the opening day of the campaign.

The first goal of the game came after some dreadful defending from Toulouse.

Lilian Compan still had plenty to do, however, after being presented with the ball 30 metres out.

But he fired an unstoppable dipping effort over the head of Nicolas Douchez that went in off the underside of the crossbar. Caen went two up 10 minutes into the second half.

Toulouse's defence was again at fault, leaving Benjamin Nivet completely unmarked to turn in Gr?gory Proment's corner.

The visitors were largely toothless in attack. Pierre-Andr? Gignac went clear in the 65th minute, but saw his well-struck shot clip the post on its way wide.

Toulouse did finally find the net in the 94th minute. But Achille Emana's volleyed effort - well-taken though it was - was little more than a consolation.

The 2-1 win saw Caen move out of the relegation zone, into 17th place, with seven points from eight games. Toulouse are 12th.
