Mexico City:Jaguares de Chiapas fired manager Victor Manuel Vucetich on Wednesday, dismissing him less than a week after the club lost its second straight and with only one victory in its first seven matches.
Vucetich, 52, joined the Jaguares last season to replace Eduardo de la Torre, who became general manager of Cruz Azul. He won only five of 19 games.
Friday's 2-1 loss at Tecos UAG left Jaguares in fourth place with six points in Group 1, nine behind group leader Pachuca, and only two ahead of last place Tecos.
Jaguares acquired striker Adolfo Bautista, considered one of the league's 10 best players, from Chivas de Guadalajara during the offseason, but he has yet to score.
The team did not say how much it paid for Bautista. The league's most expensive player, Oswaldo Sanchez, cost US$4 million when he was sold to Santos Laguna in December.
Jaguares management said it would announce the announce Vucetich's replacement later on Wednesday. The new coach will start on Saturday, when it plays at home against Morelia.
Vucetich is the second Mexican coach to lose his job this season. Argentine coach Dario Franco was fired by Tecos on August 19.
