London:
Nobody has more problems at the start of the Champions League season than Real Madrid - unless it's Italian side AS Roma. By coincidence, they face each other tomorrow in Europe's top club tournament. Both have named new coaches since their disastrous starts two weeks ago in Group B, and they both suffered weekend losses in league play. It has to get better - or does it? Beaten embarrassingly two weeks ago by Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in its Champions League opener, Real Madrid parted with coach Jose Antonio Camacho and replaced him with low-key assistant Mariano Garcia Remon. The results have not improved much. After beating Osasuna 1-0 in Garcia Remon's debut, Madrid slumped to a 2-1 loss Saturday against Athletic Bilbao. It's Madrid's worst league start in 20 years with only four goals in five games. "With or without Camacho, they are a sad sight," the sports daily As said in a front page headline yesterday. David Beckham is doubtful for the Roma game with what Madrid said was a virus and fever. However, Zinedine Zidane could play after missing three league games with a shoulder injury picked up against Leverkusen. "All we think about is winning," Madrid midfielder Albert Celades said. "Granted, neither team is in good shape right now but we need to win after losing the first (Champions League) game. It would be hard to lose again." (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
