Olympique Lyon effectively wrapped up their third French Ligue 1 title in succession, despite a 1-0 defeat at Paris St Germain, as Monaco slumped to a 4-1 home loss to Stade Rennes on Saturday. With one game left, Lyon have 76 points from 37 games with a goal difference of plus 35. PSG, who won thanks to an early goal by Pedro Pauleta, are three points off the pace with a goal difference of only plus 21. Sound position This victory makes Olympique Lyon only the third French club (after St Etienne and Olympique Marseille) to win three domestic crowns in a row. Even a loss would not have hampered Lyon's chances too much as they would still have a one-point lead over Monaco while PSG, six points adrift, are no longer in contention for the title. Match action Portuguese striker Pedro Pauleta took his tally to 17 goals for the season when he scored in the sixth minute to put PSG 1-0 ahead. Lyon had the better chances thereafter. Juninho saw a long range free kick parried by goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo in the twelfth minute. Alonzo and his defence combined to thwart Lyon on numerous occasions in the second half. He saved a header from Mickael Essien on the goal-line. Frederic Dehu made a great clearance off the line, despite being under pressure from Elber. That was after after substitute Sidney Govou had poked the ball goalward once Alonzo had committed himself. In stoppage time, Alonzo tipped a Juninho header over for a corner to leave PSG victorious by 1-0. (AP)
