English Premiership powerhouse Chelsea met Italian Serie-A side AC Milan, the six-time European champion, in an exhibition game on Sunday. The only goal of the contest was scored by Chelsea's Arjen Robben, who fired in a shot outside the area in the 13th minute. Chelsea nearly doubled the lead in the 25th minute. Robben crossed in the box for Hernan Crespo, who made a short pass to Frank Lampard -- but his shot sailed just high and wide. Chance to score The best scoring opportunity for AC Milan came in the 38th minute. Rui Costa threaded a perfect through-ball ahead to Cafu, who fed a pass across the penalty area, apparently intended for Paulo Ferreira. The ball was slightly deflected by a Chelsea defender, and before Ferreira could get a boot on it, Chelsea defender Geremi tried to clear the ball. Luckily for Chelsea, the ball deflected off Ferreira and safely into the goalkeeper's hands. Bright spark Second half substitute Shawn Wright-Phillips, who just signed a big five-year contract with Chelsea, provided a spark. The lightning quick, adopted son of former England striker Ian Wright, displayed some exquisite ball handling skills. In the 62nd minute, Wright-Phillips nearly scored, but his strike from just inside the area strayed slightly wide. Later, in the 70th minute, Didier Drogba, who substituted for Lampard at 65 minutes, got free of his defender but fired his header over the bar. The game went 1-0 to Chelsea. The two sides end their American tour, meeting each other again on July 31 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (AP)
