Deportivo La Coruna has defeated Seville 2-0 at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in the Sanish Primera league on Sunday. Fourth-placed Seville were looking to extend an eight-game unbeaten run on Sunday when they met Deportivo La Coruna. The bad-tempered clash featured two red cards, two penalties and 13 bookings. Juan Capdevila was caught by Daniel Alves in the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. The replay showed that Alves actually played both man and ball but he was booked. However, Diego Tristan's spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Andres Palop. The referee claimed that Seville players encroached into the penalty area before the ball was struck and ordered it to be retaken, much to the chagrin of the hosts. Tristan duly sent Palop the wrong way second time around to open the scoring after 25 minutes. It was all too much for Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca. He was sent off for continuing to argue with the referee after the penalty. Sevilla's situation deteriorated further four minutes before the interval as Deportivo midfielder Sanchez Victor struck a sublime shot from outside the area into the top corner. The ball was backheeled to Sanchez Victor from an indirect free-kick and the midfielder took a second touch before unleashing a brilliant shot that flew past Palop. After the interval, Alves was then deservedly sent off or a second bookable offence after going through the back of Pedro Munitis after 70 minutes. Then, four minutes later, Pedro Munitis beat Ivica Dragutinovic for pace and was brought down in the area for another penalty. The replay showing Munitis was clipped in the box - just. However, the impressive Palop repeated his earlier feat, saving from Uruguayan sub Sebastian Taborda, but it was just damage-limitation. Sevilla's eight-game winning run was at an end as Deportivo move up to seventh and above Seville with the victory, both sides level on 23 points. (AP)
