New Delhi: Striker Abu Taheer slammed in seven goals in a span of just under 20 minutes to help Infant Jesus Academy, Goa hammer Govt Secondary School, Lakshwadeep 10-0 and enter the quarterfinals of boy's u-14 category of the 54th Subroto Cup football tournament here on Sunday.
Goa had taken the lead in the very first minute through Abhijeet and Taheer killed the contest by the 20th minute, scoring seven more goals (4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 18).
His first hat-trick came within a span of just three minutes between 4th to 6th minute.
"I had only dreamt of such a scoring pattern but everything came together today," said Taheer, who is now the tournament's highest scorer with eight goals from two outings.
Shah Jahan (20th) and Amay (39th) completed the tally for the Goan outfit, which defeated West Bengal's Krishnadevpur High School, Burdwan 4-2 yesterday.
Meanwhile, North-eastern teams maintained their proud tradition in the Subroto Cup with North-eastern English School, Khabesoi, Manipur and Greenwood School, Kohima, Nagaland also advancing to the last eight stages with easy wins. Manipur blanked Gujarat 3-0 with goals from Eniel Haque (2nd), Leishemba 7th) and Boris (9th).
Betkuchi High School, Kamrup, Assam are almost through to the quarters after a goalless draw with NG Town High School, Sambalpur, Odisha, which put them atop Pool D with 4 points. A win over minnows J&K in their last pool engagement will see them through.
Earlier, a brace by Bohranuddin led Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthanm (BKSP), Bangladesh to a 7-0 thrashing of minnows Tyndale Biscoe School, Srinagar, J & K. BKSP are now on three points from two games.
