Sevilla:
Getafe, who started the weekend as leaders of Spain's La Liga, lost their top spot and their unbeaten record when they went down 1-0 at Real Betis on Sunday. They dropped down to third place after a penalty from Ricardo Oliveira in the 17th minute earned maximum points for the home side. Getafe coach Bernd Schuster was hoping his side would make a positive start, but they didn't. Real Betis, who are in their debut campaign in the Champions League and were hoping to find their form ahead of next week's match against English champions Chelsea, earned a penalty in the 16th minute when Getafe goalkeeper Luis Garcma brought down Ricardo Oliveira and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Oliveira picked himself and duly despatched the ball past Garcma to score his third league goal of the season and give Betis a one-nil lead after 17 minutes. At half-time, it was 1-0 to Betis and Getafe, in only their second season in the top flight. And it came close to falling 2-0 behind when Brazilian Marcos Assungao thundered a free-kick from 30 metres against the bar in the 51st minute. Six minutes later, Getafe striker Daniel Giza was presented with the perfect cross, but he couldn't direct his header past goalkeeper Antonio Doblas. Uncertainty in the Getafe defence on 72 minutes resulted in a Betis counter-attack and only the legs of Garcma prevented substitute Dani from doubling the home side's lead. Then, with just four minutes remaining, Edu ran from his own half and had the chance to put the game beyond Getafe. But once again the legs of Garcma came to the rescue. With the game entering the closing moments Getafe were reduced to 10 men when Diego Rivas was shown a second yellow card for a push on Dani. The referee then produced the red to end a miserable afternoon for the visitors who lost their unbeaten record and slipped to third place in the table with the 1-0 defeat. Real Betis moved up to 10th with only their second win of the season. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
