Dubai: Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has stepped down as technical director of United Arab Emirates club Al Nasr to take up an undisclosed role at a Chinese club.
It was the second high-profile departure for the club after it fired manager Walter Zenga over the weekend following a disappointing sixth-place finish in the UAE domestic league. Zenga is a former Italy goalkeeper.
Al Nasr on Monday only said Eriksson was joining a Chinese club without specifying, but Guangzhou R&F has previously said he was a candidate for its coaching job.
Eriksson's long career includes a five-year stint as England coach. The 64-year-old Swede has also managed Fiorentina, Roma, Lazio, Benfica, Manchester City, Mexico and Ivory Coast. In the past two years, he has held several short-term posts, managing English second-tier side Leicester, advising a Thai club and now lasting five months in the UAE.
