Lisbon :
UEFA has said that there was nothing suspicious about the 2-2 result between Sweden and Denmark, a high-scoring draw that advanced both teams to the Euro 2004 quarterfinals and automatically eliminated Italy. "There isn't anything there at all," said UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner. He said that the UEFA, the governing body of European soccer would not investigate the result. Conspiracy theories swirled in the Italian media that the Scandinavian neighbors would play for the 2-2 result, which would automatically knock Italy out of the competition. Italy defeated Bulgaria in its match 2-1. Sweden, Denmark and Italy each finished with five points in Group C. The two Nordic countries advanced with a better goal difference: Sweden (5), Denmark (2) and Italy (1). Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni was asked later that if he had suspicions about the result. "I have none," he said. Asked if he would protest to UEFA, he replied: "Absolutely not." (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
