Buenos Aires, Argentina: Ramon Diaz has been reappointed coach of fallen Argentine football giants River Plate, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The 53-year-old replaces Matias Almeyda, who was sacked earlier in the week following poor results.
A former River Plate striker, Diaz later coached the club twice before winning five Argentine titles, the Copa Libertadores (1996) and the Supercopa Sudamericana (1997).
The 33-time Argentine champions returned to the top flight this season but have just 23 points from 17 matches.
The famous Buenos Aires outfit had been relegated from the country's top division last season for the first time in their 110-year history.
