Egypt got their revenge against Libya with a 4-1 win in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday to keep their hopes alive in a tough African zone Group Three. Emad Metab scored two goals and Mido and Ahmed Hassan added one each to help Egypt stay in the qualifying race with 10 points in Group 3 -tied with Libya also on 10 but above them in third on goal difference. Egypt's win – secured by second-half goals from Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam, an Emad Motab double and Ahmed Hassan – takes them above Libya into third place on goal difference with 10 points from six games behind Ivory Coast on 15 and Cameroon who have 11. In their previous match with Libya in October, Egypt lost 2-1, a result that seriously damaged their qualifying hopes. Only one team from each African group qualifies for the finals in Germany. Egypt dominates Egypt dominated a goalless first half but were caught out after the break when Libya's Osman El Fergani weaved through the home defence before tapping the ball over goalkeeper Abdelwahed El Sayed to put the visitors ahead in the 52nd minute. The shock of going behind sparked Egypt into action and Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam equalised three minutes later on his return to the national team after a six-month absence as he latched on to a ball across the area by Mohamed Abu Treka. A minute later Motab of leading Cairo club Al Ahli put Egypt ahead for the first time with a header past hapless Libyan goalkeeper Miftah Ghazala. Egypt in third place Hassan, who plays for Turkey's Besiktas, extended Egypt's lead in the 77th minute with a powerful long-range shot before Motab wrapped up a comfortable win eight minutes from time. Egypt now lie in third place in the African Zone Group 3 ahead of Libya on ten points. Ony the top team in each African Group qualifies for the 2006 World Cu p in Germany. (AP)
