Sao Paulo:
Defending Brazilian league champions Corinthians signed a two-year contract with World Cup veteran Ricardinho on Wednesday. Ricardinho, who helped Brazil win the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, signed with Corinthians after failing to reach a deal with former club Santos. The 29-year-old midfielder will be officially introduced to Corinthians' fans on Thursday, the club said on its web site. Official details on the contract were not immediately released, but local media said Ricardinho will receive a monthly salary of 250,000 reals. Argentine international Carlos Tevez is Corinthians' best-paid player, reportedly earning a salary of 430,000 reals. Ricardinho returns to Corinthians after leading the club to the 1998 and '99 national titles. He also helped Corinthians win FIFA's world club championship in 2000, and the Brazilian Cup in 2002. In 2004, Ricardinho led Santos to its second Brazilian title in two years. Ricardinho was a late addition to Brazil's 2002 World Cup roster after midfielder Emerson was injured just before the tournament. He is still fighting for a spot in coach Carlos Alberto Parreira's team for the this year's World Cup in Germany. Corinthians, which last year won its first national title since 1999, is fifth in the Sao Paulo state championship. It will face Juventus on Thursday. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
