Liverpool:
Benfica did double duty on Wednesday when it beat defending Champions League champion Liverpool 2-0. Besides eliminating the five-time champions 3-0 on aggregate, the Portuguese team also ended Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez's winning streak in European competition. Benfica, which last won European soccer's biggest title in 1962, downed Liverpool at Anfield to advance to the quarterfinals and end a long road for Benitez and his team. Wednesday's match was Liverpool's 29th Champions League game in 20 months, including 15 on the way to its memorable triumph last season. Liverpool made it comfortably through to the knockout stage, unbeaten in six games with a 6-1 goal difference before being drawn to face Benfica.Topics mentioned in this article
