Maracaibo, Venezuela:Brazil advanced to the Copa America finals on Tuesday, eliminating Uruguay 5-4 on penalty kicks.
Brazil advances to meet the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between Mexico and Argentina.
Gilberto converted to put Brazil in front 5-4 in penalty kicks and goalie Doni clinched the win by stopping Diego Lugano's shot. The Uruguayan players argued Doni came off the goal line early on Lugano's attempt.
The teams were tied at 2 after regulation.
Maicon scored and found Julio Baptista for another goal to help Brazil grab a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Uruguay tied it in the 70th minute when Cristian Rodriguez's run down the left side helped set up Sebastian Abreu's goal. Diego Forlan also scored for Uruguay.
After struggling through the first three group matches with just one goal - the lowest of any of the 12 teams - Uruguay came alive in its quarterfinal, eliminating host Venezuela 4-1.
Brazil also had something to prove, following its opening 2-0 upset at the hands of Mexico, and did so in fine "jogo bonito" form by thrashing Chile 6-1 to advance to the semis.
