Eindhoven:
Juninho scored in the 65th minute from a free kick, and Lyon beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 in the first leg of the opening knockout phase of the Champions League on Tuesday. Juninho's winner curled toward the middle of the goal and PSV keeper Gomes misjudged the flight for it to bounce in off his thigh. PSV coach Guus Hiddink said his players had flinched when Juninho took the free kick. "We were a little nervous, and a little naive," Hiddink said. Yellow cards Lyon midfielder Sidney Govou was sent off in the 80th minute for two yellow cards. In the opening minutes, PSV defender Michael Lamey misplaced a pass and Govou almost pounced. PSV defender Alex hit a free kick in the 15th that hit the crossbar with Lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet helpless. Coupet blocked the header of PSV striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink shortly before halftime, and held a long-range shot by Lamey. In the second half, PSV's 17-year-old midfielder, Ismail Aissati, cleared the ball off the line after Lyon striker John Carew headed the ball goalward. Govou then tripped an opponent to collect his second yellow, but PSV was unable to capitalise. PSV substitute Arouna Kone hit the post from close range in the last minute. "It's going to be difficult, there's no getting around that," Hiddink said of the second leg on March 8. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
