Away from fans' prying eyes, David Beckham has taken time out from soccer to share his experience and listen to Filipino children struggling to rebuild their broken lives.
The 36-year-old former England captain is also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
He visited a shelter for abused children in a suburb of Manila on Friday, telling the kids "it's so important to have a dream."
Wearing a black UNICEF T-shirt and gray denim pants, Beckham listened intently in a private conversation with a group of five children, telling them how he started playing as a 7-year-old and eventually achieved his dream of playing for Manchester United.
Beckham and his Los Angeles Galaxy teammates are playing an exhibition against the Philippine national team this weekend.
