Barcelona:
Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho has again been voted the best footballer in the world by his fellow professionals. The 26 year-old Barcelona playmaker was presented with the FIFPro Player of the Year Award for the second year in succession at the Camp Nou stadium on Thursday. Argentinian teammate Lionel Messi picked up the Young Player award. The club was also recognised for its work in Africa and sponsorship for UNICEF. 43,000 players from 40 football associations from around the world took part in the poll, which had its inaugural year in 2005. Others receiving personal awards from the International Professional Footballers' Association, FIFPro, included Gianluca Zambrotta, who was with Juventus last season but formed part of the victorious Italian squad at the Germany 2006 World Cup. In all, seven players who took part in the final between France and Italy were recognised in the 'Team of the Year'. Ronaldinho was also honoured in the 'dream team', with Barcelona strike partner Samuel Eto'o, who is recovering from injury in Mallorca. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
