New Delhi: Russia won the bid to host the 2018 soccer World Cup but England allegedly tried extremely hard. So hard that it is claimed that England football chiefs allegedly hired spies to pry on rival bidders.
According to the British tabloid Mirror, two un-named officials close to the bidding process have confirmed the 'under-hand' manner used during the process by the team that had Prince William, PM David Cameron and David Beckham lobby towards the later stages.
In what it's website says can be a huge embaressement for Cameron if proven, the Mirrror said that though the Football Association has refused to comment on the matter, a 2018 official has admitted to it that there was a private security team. “There were undercover people inside the Baur au Lac. They were in the lobby and the bar, listening in. It’s not illegal to listen to conversations.”
Reactions of shock and outrage from rival nations who were in the running to host the event but lost out eventually, have already begun emerging.
