Milan:
Defending champion Inter Milan drew visiting Sampdoria 1-1 in the second round of Italy's Serie A on Saturday. Sampdoria's Francesco Flachi scored from the penalty spot in the 48th minute. But the title favourite recovered in the 79th, somewhat fortunately, when Sampdoria defender Massimo Bonanni headed the ball into his own net from a Luis Figo corner. In the other Serie A game, Reggina beat Cagliari 2-1 at home. In Serie B, David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero scored for demoted Juventus to beat Vicenza 2-1 and claim its first victory of the season. Inter coach Roberto Mancini gave new signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hernan Crespo their first start together in attack, but neither was able to find the back of the net despite going close on a number of occasions. "I thought the Ibrahimovic-Crespo pairing worked well tonight," Mancini said. "But they've had limited opportunities to play together. The same goes for Adriano." Mancini left Brazil striker Adriano on the bench, introducing him only in the 78th for midfielder Stankovic. Flachi was brought down inside the box by Inter defender Ivan Cordoba, in one of Sampdoria's few attacks on Inter's goal. Cordoba made amends for the equaliser, flicking Figo's corner into the path of Bonanni. Inter threatened throughout but was denied by Sampdoria goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi, who made several excellent saves. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
