Kolkata:
The Mohun Bagan elections saw the incumbent Anjan Mitra group win by a margin of about 500 votes. Over 4000 of the club's 6000 odd members had voted in the elections that were given the go ahead by the courts. The new executive body insists that this election, the first in 15 years, was historic in several ways. Major challenges While the celebrations for the winning group continued all through Tuesday, the real work begins now. Infighting in the club has hurt the team's performance, and there have been differences with sponsors, with the club narrowly avoiding relegation in the National Football League last season. Mohun Bagan is now aiming for national and international glory. "India should play the 2014 World Cup. I had a discussion with the AIFF President. The club has built a very good academy to prepare footballers," said Swapan Sadhan Bose, President, Mohun Bagan Club. These may be lofty promises, but the more immediate goal will be to get Mohun Bagan to win the Kolkata League.Topics mentioned in this article
