Blackpool striker DJ Campbell apologised on Sunday after a moment of madness that saw him sent off in the Seasiders 4-0 drubbing by Wolves on Saturday.
Campbell was given his marching orders shortly before half-time in Blackpool's defeat at Molineux after angrily shoving Wolves defender Richard Stearman in the face.
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway condemned Campbell's actions as "unacceptable," and said the dismissal left the players team-mates with a mountain to climb when they were already losing 1-0.
"I can't defend him, and he didn't help his team out. Normally he helps us out brilliantly, but unfortunately he let us and himself down," Holloway said.
The straight red card also rules Campbell out of crucial matches against Chelsea, Blackburn and Fulham at a time when the club are battling to avoid being sucked into the relegation dogfight.
A contrite Campbell issued his apology on Twitter on Sunday.
"Peeps sorry about yesterday I've let my team mates & u guys down, I no I play with 2much passion but that's how I am wish I could take it bk (sic)," the striker wrote on the micro-blogging site.
Holloway meanwhile put a brave face on the challenges facing Blackpool, who have taken just seven points from a possible 33 in 2011.
"We just have to keep our spirits high and keep going after what was a bad result for us, so we'll get on with Chelsea next," Holloway said.
