London:
EPL defending champion Chelsea has confirmed that it won't meet Arsenal's asking price for England defender Ashley Cole. British media said Chelsea had offered 16 million pounds, but that Arsenal wanted 25 million pounds. "I'm not the financial man. That's in the hands of (chief executive) Peter Kenyon and (owner) Roman (Abramovich) and the board but they told me, 100 per cent, no chance." "Ashley Cole is Arsenal's player and they have the power in their hands to say yes or no. We have the power in our hands to say how far our offer goes. The offer went to the limit," said Mourinho. Cole was left out of the Arsenal squad for a Champions League qualifying match on Tuesday, meaning he would still be eligible to play in the competition for another team. Arsenal captain Thierry Henry said he was trying to persuade Cole to stay. "At the moment, I am training with him, so I am trying to persuade him. But sometimes, in football you have to respect the decision of the guy,"said Henry. His future at Arsenal has been in doubt since he was photographed meeting with Mourinho in London last year. Chelsea, Mourinho and Cole were all fined for breaking Premier League transfer rules by meeting without Arsenal's consent. With Asier Del Horno leaving for Valencia, Mourinho wants another left-back to join Wayne Bridge in the squad. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
