Strong contenders Iran will take on a technically sound Uzbekistan in the final of the JRD Tata Invitational International football (under-19) tournament at JRD Tata sports complex on Monday. Iran, which started off with a dismal performance holding Uzbekistan and India TFA White (ITW) to draws in the league encounters, bounced back to form when they beat India TFA Blue (ITB) and Bangladesh to storm into the final. The spirited Iran team, comprised of players who played in the under-17 FIFA World Cup in Argentina last year, are on par with Uzbekistan on points (8 each) in the league table. But Iran edged ahead on goal average conceding just three to Uzbekistan's four after both teams ended up scoring eight goals each. On the other hand, Uzbekistan defeated both the Indian teams while drew with Bangladesh and Iran to make the final. In the title clash, Iran would rely on short passes and a speedy game in comparison to Uzbekistan's combination of long passes and offensive play. Both the forward lines are in their elements but the Iranians appear a bit more stronger in the mid-field as they hardly miss any opportunity to raid the rival citadel. Iranian striker Milad Midavoodi leads the goal scoring charts with four goals and he also has the distinction of scoring against all the rival teams. Uzbekistan would be looking up to their trump card Abbos Abdullayev who too is in top form scoring three goals in the tournament so far. (PTI)
