Jamshedpur:
Iran trounced Bangladesh 4-0 in a one-sided league encounter of the under-19 JRD Tata International Invitation football tournament today. Two goals in each half by Milad Midavoodi, captain Milad Nori, Hamed Rasouli and Mohsen Afrozian virtually threw the inexperienced Bangladesh, who secured just one point from four outings, out of the tournament. Bangladesh boys, who bounced back brilliantly against Uzbekistan even after trailing 0-3 till the last 15 minutes to level the score yesterday, failed to put up any resistance against Iran today. Showing superb combination and short pass movements, Iran dominated the proceedings and their frequent forays into the rival citadel right from the beginning tore apart the Bangladesh defence line. Iran, consisting of several players who had represented the country in the under-17 World Cup in Argentina, surged ahead in the 7th minute when striker Milad Midavoodi, who had a fine time on the field, after receiving a Mohammad Peidaei pass, scored the first goal in a solo move. The second goal came in 48th minute (injury time) when Skipper Milad Nori had a long run with the ball from mid-field and finished the job after dribbling a couple of defenders. Weak resistance Taking advantage of the weak game plan of the rivals, Iran increased attacks after the breather and substitute Hamed Rasouli netted the ball after receiving a cross from Nori. Following a throw in from the left flank, Mohsen Afrozian, who replaced Mohammad Niknafs in the second half, penetrated the Bangla defence and sealed their fate in the 70th minute. Iran could have won by a bigger margin had the woodwork not come in between. At least four shots were rebounded into the field by the crossbar. As the Bangla side had nothing to lose they should have played a more positive game but they committed mistakes galore and their rival took advantage of them. Bangla coach Md Abu Yousuf said their strategy against Iran did not work as the boys meekly surrendered to the opponent team. "The boys lacked confidence despite their spirited efforts against Uzbekistan two days ago. They have talent but not the temperament to face big teams. They do not have international exposure," Yousuf said. He admitted that Iran could have scored more goals. Iran coach Hamid Ali Dasti also said that his players missed a number of chances and could xave won by 8/9 goals. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
