Mexican defender Rafael Marquez, sent off in the World Cup second-round match against the United States, was suspended by FIFA today for four international matches and fined 8,000 Swiss francs ($5,440). Marquez was shown a straight red card two minutes from time after clattering Cobi Jones with a high kick and a blow with his head. FIFA also slapped a two-match ban on Paraguayan midfielder Roberto Acuna, who was red-carded in second-half injury time of the second-round game against Germany. Acuna also received a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs ($3,400). The suspensions will be served in competitive games at the continental level, FIFA said. (AP)
