Millions of people around the world watched Real Madrid display their new 40-million dollar acquisition on Saturday. David Beckham made his debut for the Spanish club in a friendly game in China. He got pride of place in the team and with the fans despite not scoring any goal. Real Madrid took on a Chinese select eleven of China Dragons and almost scored in the 13th minute as Roberto Carlos hit the post with a left-footer, but Ronaldo could not convert the rebound. Beckham, playing in his first game since breaking his wrist in South Africa on May 22, got a chance to bend it in the 32nd minute. But he put too much curl on it and the ball went just wide of the post. In the second half, Real Madrid created fewer opportunities and Beckham was finally substituted in the 72nd minute. Beckham's main rival for the right midfield position, Luis Figo, playing on the left, opened the scoring after a great pass from Ronaldo. Real were up 1-0 at half time. Real's lead doubled in the 75th minute. Roberto Carlos had a fierce shot saved and Morientes was quick to pick up the rebound. Morientes, who had come on as a substitute, scored his second goal to make it 3-0 for Real Madrid. It would finally end at 4-0 to the Spanish champions. The scoreline, however, seemed a little harsh on the Dragons who had some great chances too. Javier Portillo scored the last goal and it was allowed despite seeming to be offside. Real Madrid's next game is in Hong Kong on August 8.
