Paris:
Despite speculation that he could be replaced, goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has said he intends to stay with Manchester United. "For me, everything is going perfectly well," Barthez was quoted as saying in French sports daily L'Equipe. "I've always felt fine with Manchester. Therefore, I'm staying there. There is no problem." Barthez joined United in May 2000 on a $12.5 million move from Monaco. But he never quite filled the shoes of Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. Barthez, who was benched the last three games of this season, has been criticized for sloppy mistakes, lack of concentration in big games, and his high-profile lifestyle off the field. Manchester manager Alex Ferguson is reported to have a list of a half-dozen replacements for Barthez. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
