Scotland:The Scottish Football League may not be as competitive as some of the other high profile ones in Europe. But they have had a surprise success story this year. Ayr United have reached the Scottish Cup final for the first time in their 92-year existence. Hibernian had most of the chances in the first half against Ayr United, but failed to convert any of them. After enduring the early storm, Ayr's best chance came in the second half. But Pat McGinlay's shot was well saved by the Hibernian keeper. And 15 minutes into the second half Hibernian missed another chance to score and the game went into extra time. In the 101st minute of play, Ian Murray fouled John Robertson in the area to hand Ayr a penalty. And Eddie Annand made no mistake from the spot as the first division side were through to the first major final in their 98-year history. They face Glasgow Rangers in the final on the 17th of March. Glasgow Rangers vs Glasgow Celtic The Rangers beat their Glasgow rivals Celtic to reach the final of the Scottish League Cup. Glasgow Celtic should have been in the lead after Arthur Numan's attempted back pass ended up with John Hartson. However, the Welsh striker's shot was well blocked by Lorenzo Amoruso. Then against the run of play, the Rangers stunned Celtic by opening the scoring. Peter Lovenkrands slotted the ball into the far corner with just seconds to go before the half time whistle. But Celtic came back with the equaliser in the 73rd minute. After a goalmouth scramble, Bobo Balde finally managed to find the back of the net. Rangers got the chance to take the lead three minutes later when Balde fouled Lovenkrands in the box and a penalty was awarded. However, Arveladze made a mess of the spot kick, hitting the cross bar before it went out. An extra-time goal from Bert Konterman gave Rangers a 2-1 win and booked it a place in the final of the Scottish League Cup.
