Vigo, Spain:
Spanish Primera leaders Celta Vigo entertained their Gallician rivals Deportivo at the Baladaios stadium on Tuesday, hoping to go three points clear at the top, but Deportivo had other ideas. Deportivo were looking for only their first away win since October, when they took on Celta Vigo. And they should have got a penalty in the 14th minute, after Noureddine Naybet looked to have been fouled in the six-yard box, but the referee waved play on. Nine minutes later, Fran had a chance to put Deportivo ahead, but he failed to find the target with a free kick. Fran should have made up for that when he had the goal at his mercy a little later. But once again his shot was off target. Thirty-two minutes into the game Celta's Jesuli Mora somehow played the ball into the path of Diego Tristan, who calmly chipped the ball over the Celta keeper to put Deportivo ahead. The Celta players felt Tristan was off side and had a heated argument with the referee. The slow motion replays also suggested the Celta claim was correct, but the goal was allowed. And Celta found themselves two goals down with 25 minutes remaining with Tristan rounding off the keeper and slotting the ball into the empty net for his tenth goal of the season. Immediately after that and Celta nearly pulled one back, but Catana's shot was just wide. A terribly frustrating night for Celta worsened after Vagner Rogerio kicked Tristan for wasting time. The Brazilian midfielder was sent off and Celta were down to ten men. Deportivo went on to win 2-0 and end Celta's ten match unbeaten run. They now join Real Madrid and Celta on 40 points at the top of the table with Valencia and Alaves a point behind.Spanish Primera Liga Standings | |||||
