Berlin, Germany:Fredrik Ljungberg scored with a header in the 89th minute, giving Sweden a 1-0 win over Paraguay in Group B of the World Cup. With time running out, substitute striker Marcus Allback sent the ball back across the goal for Ljungberg to head in from 10 meters. Sweden dominated the match and Allback nearly scored another in the 59th minute but Danis Caniza made a flying goal line clearance. It was a frustrating night for Sweden, which was held to a 0-0 draw by Trinidad and Tobago in its opener. Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was taken off at halftime after missing several chances and Allback immediately added extra speed and support for Henrik Larsson and Ljungberg. With England already qualified after beating Trinidad 2-0 earlier, Paraguay has been eliminated.
Sweden plays England and Paraguay plays Trinidad on Tuesday to decide the second qualifier. Sweden had the better of the first half and goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, returning after missing the 0-0 draw with Trinidad, had little to do for the first 45 minutes. He wasn't much busier in the second, although Nelson Valdez had two good chances. Playmaker Kim Kallstrom's 20-meter shot was tipped wide by Paraguay goalkeeper Aldo Bobadilla in the ninth minute. Four minutes later, Larsson laid the ball neatly into the path of Christian Wilhelmsson, who shot wide. Paraguay's attack, facing the bulky Swedish defense of Olof Mellberg and Erik Edman, made little impression. Sweden's attackers, however, had plenty of chances. In the 60th minute, Allback's shot from two meters was saved by Bobadilla. Paraguay ended the game with a series of long-range shots which went over the bar.
