Jonathan Woodgate and Robbie Fowler are gone. Can Leeds manager Terry Venables be far behind? A club reportedly with whopping debts of 77 million pounds when it hired Venables six months ago, Leeds has now sold off the nucleus of a completive side. England striker Fowler completed his move on Thursday to Manchester City for 6 million pounds and soon thereafter, Newcastle said it had agreed to a fee of 9 million pounds for Woodgate – another England international. At least four other top-notch players have been sold since Venables took over: Rio Ferdinand to Manchester United, Robbie Keane to Tottenham, Olivier Dacourt to Roma, and Lee Bowyer to West Ham. Venables, who was reported meeting with Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale on Thursday, said earlier this week he might resign if Woodgate were sold following a pledge by Leeds officials that Fowler would be the last to go.
