London:
Paul Scholes and Ruud Van Nistelrooy finally found a way past standout goalkeeper Kasey Keller as Manchester United moved five points clear of Arsenal on Sunday by beating Tottenham 2-0. The American 'keeper made five brilliant stops in the game at White Hart Lane where England captain David Beckham was restored to the United lineup. But he was beaten by a close range Scholes header in the 69th minute and Van Nistelrooy's 43rd strike of the season in injury time. The result means Alex Ferguson's team has 77 points from 36 games with two to go and defending champion Arsenal 72 from 35 and the victory had the Reds fans, whose team had won the title seven times in nine seasons, singing "We want our trophy back". At the other end, Trevor Brooking's bid to lead West Ham to Premier League survival began with a 1-0 victory at Manchester City thanks to a strike by Frederick Kanoute nine minutes from the end.
