Railways derailed Services 3-0 while Punjab crushed Manipur 4-0 in the league matches of the 57th National Football Championship here today. In a Group-C match, Railways, who could not convert their chances in the first half, struck first in the 50th minute through a penalty kick. Railways winger Kasif Jamal who made a menacing run with the ball towards the Services goal was brought down in the box by defender S Ignatious resulting in the penalty kick. Jamal who himself took the spotkick made no mistake to find the target with a rasping shot that beat the Services goalkeeper to his right. Railways netted the rest two goals five minutes before the final whistle to seal Services' fate. Kasif Jamal made it 2-0 with a solo effort and substitute Adil Ansari was bang on target off a winger Manjinder Singh pass. The second match in the Group-D between Punjab and Manipur turned out to be a one-sided affair. Punjab winger Ram Paul scored a brace in the 38th and 57th minute respectively. Midfielder Hardeep Singh Saini who did the spadework for Paul's second goal, himself scored the third in the 68th minute off a winger Gurjit Singh cross. Gurjit rounded off the tally when he scored off a Saini pass ten minutes before the final whistle. (PTI)
