Services in quarter-finals, Assam beat MP

Down by a goal till half time, Services rallied superbly to defeat Rajasthan 5-2 to enter the quarter-finals from cluster-1, while Assam beat Madhya Pradesh with two second half goals in cluster-2 in the 57th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy here today. At the university grounds Services were down by a goal with Rajasthan mid-fielder Dilip Singh putting his team ahead in the 27th minute. However, Services regrouped well after the interval and their forward Amar Thapa equalized in the 46th minute. Two minutes later their winger Preetam Bahadur increased the lead with a solo run. Mid-fielder Irudaya Raj made it 3-1 in the 60th minute and winger Sajith Kumar pumped in two goals in the 67th and 69th minutes. For Rajasthan their forward Ashfaq Qureshi reduced the margin in the 81st minute with a header off Dilip Singh cross. But they could never recover completely. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
