Liverpool:
Sidelined with another hamstring injury that will keep him out of England's final World Cup game against Greece, Michael Owen signed a new four-year contract to stay at Liverpool yesterday. Forced to watch Liverpool's 1-0 Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev because of an injury that will keep him out of action for at least three weeks, the 21-year-old striker, who has netted 13 goals so far this season, has signed a deal that should keep him at Anfield until 2005. Reports say the new deal will mean that Owen, who scored three times for England in its 5-1 World Cup win at Germany three weeks ago, will earn between $84,000 and $112,000 a week. He has also helped Liverpool win five trophies in six months, including the UEFA Cup, European Super Cup and domestic FA and League Cups. "It has never been a thought in my mind about playing for any other club than Liverpool, and I'm obviously delighted to have signed," Owen said.Topics mentioned in this article
