Aston Villa beat Southampton 3-1 in an action packed English Premiership match at St Mary's Stadium on Monday night. The Saints' Rory Delap and Villa's Dion Dublin were sent off in a crazy four-minute spell just after half-time. The victory moves Villa up to fifth in the Premiership table while Southhampton are floundering in bottom place. Hosts Southampton got the Aston Villa keeper Peter Schmeichel at work after just two minutes. The Danish keeper needing to pull off a brilliant one handed save. Ten minutes into the game and Villa were a goal up, after George Boetang fired the ball into the roof of the net. Five minutes later Juan Pablo Angel finished off a lovely Villa move putting the visitors 2-0 up with his first ever Premiership goal. Southampton worked hard to claw their way back into the game, but Schmeichel denied Southampton once again. Villa could have increased their lead in the 40th minute but Angel's header hit the underside of the crossbar. And then against the run of play Southampton got one back, Marian Parhars headed home a good cross to make the score 2-1 at half time. There was more drama after the break, when Rory Delap got the red card and was sent off for a foul, as Villa had a one-man advantage. But minutes later and both teams were on level terms after Villa's Dion Dublin was given his marching orders after he fouled El Khalej inside the penalty area. Southampton were pushing for the equalizer, but Schmeichel was there to deny the hosts that, saving Parhars free kick. In the 79th minute and Villa had a two goal cushion after a good header by Mustapha Hadji for his first ever Villa goal. The visitors holding on to win 3-1.Topics mentioned in this article
