New Delhi:The Bhaichung Bhutia-Mohun Bagan saga is set to linger on some more time as the Players Status Committee of the All India Football Federation, which has been entrusted to decide on the matter, is speaking in different voices.
On the intervention of the AIFF, West Bengal's football governing body Indian Football Association had washed its hands off the issue and the national federation had referred it the matter to its Players Status Committee.
Committee chairman KP Sunny had first asked for some clarifications on the issue but after receiving them he has now sent his opinion to the AIFF.
"I have got the clarifications from the AIFF and so I have sent my opinion," Sunny said that from Kerala.
"The other members (of the five-member committee) will be sending their opinions," Sunny, also Kerala Football Association Secretary, said.
Deputy chairman Anthony Botelho, however, said he is yet to make up his mind as the documents given to him by the AIFF was insufficient to decide on the matter.
"I have basically received only two letters - one written by Bhutia to AIFF to intervene into the matter and the other AIFF's letter sent to IFA that the issue has been referred to the Players' Status Committee (of AIFF)," he said.
"How would I decide on the issue from these material? I think I will need to see the contract of the player (Bhutia) with Mohun Bagan if I have to give opinion on the issue," he said from Goa.
Asked whether his committee has the jurisdiction on the issue, Botelho, also a Goa Football Association Executive Committee member, said, "If the issue arises out of the contract between Bhutia and Mohun Bagan then we have the jurisdiction. If the issue arises not because of the contract I believe it is outside our jurisdiction.
"So I think I need to study the contract between the player and the club. AIFF should give details of the issue," he said.
Sunny, on the other hand, said his committee has the jurisdiction as the issue also involves the transfer of the player between two clubs.
"I think there is also the issue of transfer of Bhutia from one club to the other (from Mohun Bagan to East Bengal).
So I think we have the jurisdiction," he said. "We will have a meeting towards the end of his month to discuss all the transfer related issues as the first window is closed. We have not decided on the date. We will discuss Bhutia issue as well as other transfer matters," he added.
