FT: MAN CITY 1 MAN UTD 0

Sergio Aguero's 10th Premier League goal of the season gives City the spoils against 10-man United at the Etihad. The Argentine netted with an excellent first-time finish on 63 minutes, capping a fine move involving Yaya Toure and Gael Clichy. There was little to choose between the sides until the 43rd-minute dismissal of Chris Smalling following his second foolish misdemeanour of the half. City took control in the early stages of the second period and deserved their goal. But United showed great spirit despite their numerical disadvantage and could have grabbed a point but for Joe Hart producing a magnificent save to deny Angel di Maria. Nevertheless, for the first time since 1970 City can celebrate a fourth successive league victory over their arch-rivals."

NOT PELLEGRINI'S BEST DAY

It's easy to criticise Manuel Pellegrini's substitutions. He takes off the hard-working Milner for the more attacking Nasri, then replaces his ace striker Aguero for a defensive midfielder. No wonder the home side are a bag of nerves.

COUNTING THEMSELVES LUCKY

We've had a chance to look at the penalty incidents again at the break. The second one by Rojo probably should have been a spot-kick as well. You can understand why Mr Oliver didn't give it. His view was partly blocked and had he awarded a penalty he would also have had to send off his second United player of the half.
